Caleb Taylor
Director-at-Large
Caleb has spent forty two years pursuing his passion in professional aviation. Licensed as a Private Pilot in 1977 at the age of 18, he quickly continued on to instrument, commercial, multi-engine, then flight instructor ratings and certificates. At the age of 19, Caleb was employed as a full time flight instructor at a large San Diego-based flight school qualified in instrument and multi-engine training. During his tenure there, he quickly discovered his appetite for training and his natural teaching ability. At the age of 21, he was hired as a corporate pilot flying twin Cessnas and Conquest turboprops in the rigorous mountain flying environment of the eastern Sierra Nevada. In 1982 he earned an Airline Transport Pilot certificate, and later became the chief pilot of a part 135 charter operation with a fleet of 7 Conquest turboprops.
In 1987 Caleb was asked by the Fresno FAA FSDO to become a Designated Pilot Examiner and was qualified in private through ATP and held 7 multi-engine letters. He conducted over 400 pilot examinations from private pilot through ATP in the central valley of California.
Pursuing his passion for teaching, Caleb formed a company in 1988, ProFlight Inc. that was modeled to fill a niche in the type-specific aircraft training market, initially targeting the Cessna Conquest and King Air turboprops. The company competed head-to-head in these markets with the industrial multi-billion dollar brick and mortar training institutions. Developing and implementing innovative training techniques, hardware and industry-first, game changing training software made the programs extremely popular and successful. Eventually, the competition in the Conquest training market forced the closure of this program in the only remaining competitor to ProFlight, a multi-billion dollar Berkshire Hathaway institution.
Caleb has logged over 14,000 flight hours and considered one of the industry’s leading pilot training innovators. His experience includes flight instruction, designated pilot examiner, corporate flight operations, training course evaluator, part 135 Chief Pilot, Director of Operations, Director of Standards, aircraft management, and part 142 Training Center owner. His breadth of knowledge regarding aviation training, line operations, turbine aircraft systems, challenges facing professional pilots in today’s air traffic control system and complex avionics systems, combined with an intimate understanding of how to effectively train this population of aviation professionals uniquely qualifies him to lead a talented team of content developers in changing the future of eLearning and the pilot training landscape.
